Constructivism

This chapter helped me to understand how students and adults in general use the power of the mind to progress and build up undererstanding problems. Its the teacher or educator who need to use any available resources to motivate and help feed the creative mind of children.Whether its multimedia or lesson plans designed to assist teachers in showing their material its ultimately falls on how it is presented. If students do not understand the material then the teacher must use any tool or software to help the students understand. For example, a biology teacher can use an skeleton made of plastic so the students can feel and see the material and then give them 3d interactive models of human skeletons. What software or educational tool have you used to help the students interact with their learning?

  1. We are very fortunate in our EMS Program to have the ability to use software and educational tools to help students learn. We have games and computer software that we can connect to simulated patients and run scenarios where the students will have the ability to practice their critical thinking skills. The students are placed in Teams and fully interact with their learning.

  2. Your explanation was very easy to understand and really gave me a clearer understanding of what constructivism really is. This is alot like creating a hands-on learning evironment. I have always thought that if you keep the children engaged in the learning process and make if fun and exciting, the possiblities are endless. Another great example in a biology class is when an insect or small animal are dissected. This keeps the children involved. My son is taking a BIM class in high school and their teacher really keeps them involved in the learning process by doing most of their activites on the computer. One thing they are currently doing is becoming certified in the use of a particular software.

  3. Very good explanation! I use a lot of power points in my classroom. I'm lucky to have a Smartboard in my class so it is very interactive. The students get to go up to the board and do many different types of activities. And, yes, when some stduents don;t understand, we have to use another approach to teach it. In my campues, we have a software names "orchard". It has reading, science, and math skills. It's very good because it even puts it like TAKS format. The kids really enjot it!

  4. When I was teaching the main thing I used was technology. I would always teach the lesson, and then use games to reinforce what was taught. I tried to minimize the use of technology for kill and drill activities, and it also helped to keep the technology novel for the students.
